Based on a critical analysis of the process of development and adjustment of the Design & Innovation program at the Technical University of Denmark this article discusses various conceptualizations of innovation and entrepreneurship. The authors found that engineering educators and researchers in Denmark identified three different response strategies to the emerging challenges in the education of engineers: the technology driven promotion response; the business selection response strategy; and the design intervention response strategy. The authors claim that there is a need to further develop and strengthen a robust notion of innovation and entrepreneurship to overcome the naïve hopes that a traditionally narrowed minded type of educating engineers will deliver the changing challenges that will configure the future.
